European Equities Traded in the US as American Depositary Receipts Rise in Friday Trading

11:08 AM EDT, 08/23/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were trending higher late Friday morning, rising 0.82% to 1,468.10 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index. The increase helped raise the index's weekly gain to about 1.3%.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by semiconductor company Sequans Communications (SQNS), which soared 134%, followed by internet browser company Opera (OPRA), which rose 5.9%. Financial services company Banco Santander (SAN) was up 2.4%, while 3D printer company Materialise (MTLS) increased 2.2%.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by furniture maker Natuzzi (NTZ) and biopharmaceutical company Grifols (GRFS), which fell 2.4% and 0.8%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company DBV Technologies (DBVT) and medical device maker EDAP TMS (EDAP), which were off 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively.

From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical company Mereo BioPharma Group (MREO) and cruise line operator Carnival (CUK), which climbed 7.1% and 3.2%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company Amarin (AMRN) and insurance firm Prudential (PUK), which increased 2.4% and 2.3%, respectively.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biotech firm Trinity Biotech (TRIB) and biopharmaceutical company NuCana (NCNA), which lost 10% and 7.6%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical companies TC Biopharm (TCBP) and Biodexa Pharmaceuticals (BDRX), which dropped 6.1% and 4%, respectively.
