IAC's Care.com Agrees to Pay $8.5 Million to Settle Deceptive Advertising Claims, FTC Says

2024-08-27 00:47

12:47 PM EDT, 08/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- IAC's (IAC) Care.com agreed to pay $8.5 million to settle allegations it engaged in deceptive advertising to entice people to pay for subscriptions to its platform, the US Federal Trade Commission said Monday.

According to the FTC, Care.com exaggerated the number of jobs available on its website and the amount workers could expect to be paid through the online platform. The platform also allegedly made it hard for users to cancel subscriptions, the FTC said.

The $8.5 million will be used to refund consumers harmed by the company's practices, the regulator said.

Care.com was also required to support its earnings claims, state the number of jobs available based on those posted by users who can actually hire a worker, and provide subscribers with a simple cancellation method, FTC added.

IAC and Care.com did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
